We took the 40-minute boat ride on the Potomac to enjoy a view of Washington's home from the River. It was a welcome relief to sit in the shade with the breeze off the river after walking in the sun in 90 degree heat. But, as always, Mt. Vernon was wonderful!
We spent the rest of the weekend in the city enjoying the typical things one should see while in DC - the monuments and museums, the heat and crowds. Here you can see we got a break from the hot sun thanks to some cloud cover. (Aren't they good looking brothers!)
Ironically, the things we all enjoyed the most were probably not the big things, but just the time spent together, and the little things we experienced together along the way. For example, as we walked over to see the white house, a squirrel caught our eye, and so began a 15-minute detour...
The squirrel actually took a piece of popcorn out of Chase's hand. And the little creature brought a number of his friends over to enjoy the aboundance. Honestly, Russ and Chase looked quite like Snow White with birds, squirrels and creatures (including a gaggle of high school tourist girls) flocking to them...
All in all, a wonderful weekend. Thanks for coming to visit, Russ and Cara!
