We have a home

Chase and I just returned from our second trip to Washington, DC. It was more productive than we had hoped, and we now have a home to move in to when we move in about a month.

Thanks to Colin and Jenn, dear friends, to put up with us staying on their living room floor and also to Lucy, Ellie, and Penny, the cats. Their place is near the Pentagon City Metro stop, so we were able to practice both using the Metro and driving in the city as we went to our various appointments.

We started out on Friday seeing a ridiculoulsy nice, way to expensive apartment that was also extremely small. We, obviously, did not choose that apartment. We visited the Hillsdale office in DC, which was lovely, and then had lunch with my cousin Sean who just started work in the Rosslyn area. It was great to catch up with him. We then headed to Chase's interview. Chase interviewed for a family counseling position in which he would be assigned up to 5 families and help them problem solve different things. For instance, if a child was skipping school, Chase might observe the family's "get ready for school routine" or their "just getting home from school" routine, and help the family figure out a way to help the child change that negative behavior. The interview went well, and we'll hear back about it sometime this week. We ended Friday at a rather low-end (the cheapest on our list) condo a mile from the Dunn-Loring metro stop. We're not going to live there.

Saturday, we saw 3 condos and 1 apartment. We ended up with 3 equally priced, equally good options. One was very "city" in both feel and location; the second was equidistant from school for me and likely work for Chase; the third was a long commute for me, but closer for Chase and exactly what we wanted. After hours of talking through the options (thanks again to Colin and Jenn for their patience!), we slept on it and have decided on the third option. It's a condo unit that has everything we wanted, except that the commute into the city and Georgetown is a little longer than we'd like. It's safe and beautiful and perfect for visitors and our lives. It's out of the city enough that it feels like you're out of the city when you're there. We really liked that.

So after we move in August, you should come visit! I'll post pictures of it as soon as I have some - I foolishly didn't take any pictures on this trip. What was I thinking?
