Kelsey and I started out the week by painting pottery and going to some museums, but I forgot my camera, so the pictures start with our visit to Joe's Crab Shack. This is the "before" shot of one of the steam pots we shared. The after shot is... well... emptier.
As you can see, Chase was prepared to dig into the steam pot. We all wore our bibs that said, "Let's Get Crackin." And the tool Chase is holding is this great tool for getting the meat out of crab legs. The other side of the tool (that you can't see) says, "I stole this from Joe's Crab Shack." Yes, one of those did make it into the purse... :)
Kelsey and I made it to the National Zoo one day to see the Panda Bears. On the whole, if anyone wants to go to a great zoo, I recommend the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha, NE, but HDZ doesn't have pandas and it's not free. So while the National Zoo wasn't as impressive as we'd hoped, we enjoyed ourselves and the pandas. The panda below gave us quite a show. He was eating his bamboo and would pick up a stalk and break it in half like a show off and then munch away. He was so cute!
After the National Zoo, we caught the bus to Georgetown to get cupcakes from Georgetown Cupcake. The picture below is the two of us thrilled that we caught our bus and looking forward to the delectable treats awaiting us. We also got to spend a day at Mount Vernon, George Washington's home. I'd heard wonderful things about the place, and I'm so glad we went. We had a beautiful day for it, and the grounds were spectacular! We also took the "National Treasure 2" tour in which we got to go into the basement of Mt. Vernon where they shot one of the scenes for National Treasure and hear about the way Hollywood accomodated the use of the grounds. It was very impressive. Definitely a new favorite place to visit for me!
It was such a treat to have Kelsey out here last week. It really made the week feel like a vacation for me - standing in the hot sun in long lines comprised of out of town fanny-packing tourists and all. Thanks for coming Kels!
