It's a classic: The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. Not at all Luke chapter 2, but still pretty much a staple in American Christmas celebrations. You know I'm right - I mean, you can't really tell me you weren't humming the tune to yourself as you read the lyrics above. This year when Mom and Kim were out to visit, we planned a very special outing to a very special event called ICE: The Grinch Who Stole Christmas.
Essentially, the Gaylord Resort and Hotel brought in 2 million pounds of ice, 40 Chinese ice sculptors, and did a whole lot of advertising so that hundreds of people would come see the attraction. I saw the event featured on the news last year and again this year, and for my birthday, Chase surprised me with tickets for Mom, Kim, Chase, and I to go!
There were some problems with actually getting INTO the ICE exhibit - ridiculously long lines, never ending roped walkways, unmentionable substances along the way - basically we spent over an hour with hundreds of our not-so-close friends waiting to get into the display. But once we finally got into the 9 degree display, it was pretty cool! (Haha! A pun!)
Mom and Kim in their blue parkas, provided for the tour by the Gaylord, with the Grinch. The Grinch and all the displays in these pictures were made entirely out of ice. There were 3 kinds of ice used in the display: clear ice, cloudy (white) ice, and colored ice. It was brought in to the venue in large blocks of ice that the sculptors then bonded together with snow and water so that they could carve the various pieces. You can see in the picture above the blocks of colored ice in the seams of the yellow backdrop.
The best part of the display was that they had ice slides - made entirely of ice - that you could go down. They were about 15 feet high and maybe 40 or 50 feet long, but they were really fun! All of us went down them, even Mom (pictured above).
All of the classic characters from the Grinch were in the display, including the Grinch's dog, Max. Chase and Max got pretty tight during the time we spent in the display. :)
